Robert B. Cravens Jr., MD
Member at Large
Dr. Cravens earned his baccalaureate and medical doctorate from the University of Arizona. He completed a residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He has special interest and experience in endocrine neck surgery. Dr. Cravens has been an independent practitioner of ENT in Tucson, Arizona for the past 32 years. He was a founding member of Foothills Ambulatory Surgery Center in Tucson. Through experience, he believes in the independent physician’s ability to deliver excellent, personalized, affordable patient care.
Brian G. Cuddy, MD
Secretary/Treasurer
Dr. Cuddy graduated from Albany Medical College and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Following completion of his residency training, he completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is board certified in neurological surgery and has had appointments as clinical professor of neurosurgery at MUSC and an adjunct associate professor of bioengineering at Clemson University. In July of 2000, he was appointed by the South Carolina governor as chairman of the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund. He is an active member of several national neurosurgical societies and is a past president of the South Carolina Spine Society. Colonel Cuddy currently serves as a U.S. Army Reserve Surgeon. He has deployed with the 30th armored brigade to the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Spartan Shield. Dr. Cuddy has previously served as chief of staff for Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. Since 2015, he has been the chairman of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare Board of Directors.
Marcelo L. Hochman, MD
President/Founder
Dr. Marcelo Hochman is a double Board-certified head, neck, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, founder of Charleston’s Facial Surgery Center, and Past President of the Charleston County Medical Society. Specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgery, Dr. Hochman provides pro-bono care for children with vascular anomalies as the Founder and Medical Director of the Hemangioma International Treatment Center.
As President of Independent Doctors of South Carolina, Dr. Hochman promotes the independent practice of medicine to improve patient experiences and ensure that patients and physicians have alternatives and access to high-quality, doctor-driven care. A fierce advocate for a healthcare system rooted in the choice of where, how, and with whom doctors and patients practice and receive care, Dr. Hochman champions legislative projects such as Certificate of Need repeal, the prohibition of economic credentialing and non-compete clauses, and tax incentives for individual doctors who provide pro-bono medical care. He has continuously been listed in “The Best Doctors in America” and has received The Order Of The Palmetto – South Carolina’s highest award for his medical work.
